What Can and Cannot Go in a Dumpster

Not everything belongs in a dumpster. Dumping prohibited items can result in additional fees, environmental fines, or the dumpster being rejected at the landfill. Here is what you need to know.

Generally Accepted

  • Household junk, furniture, and appliances (non-Freon)
  • Construction debris: wood, drywall, metal, concrete, bricks
  • Yard waste: branches, leaves, dirt, grass
  • Roofing shingles and tiles

Prohibited or Restricted

  • Hazardous waste: paint, chemicals, motor oil, batteries
  • Electronics: TVs, computers, phones (e-waste laws apply)
  • Tires and large automotive parts
  • Asbestos-containing materials
  • Medical or biological waste

Heavy Material Limits

Concrete, dirt, and rock are heavy. Even if they fit in the bin, they may exceed weight limits. We offer specialized heavy debris containers designed for these materials.
